To address the topic of children’s online aggression, this article explores a subsample from the EU Kids Online dataset of 1404 children, aged 9–16, who reported having engaged in aggressive acts online in the previous year. Through a cluster analysis, respondents were classified into three groups. Findings emphasize the risk factors for aggression and how they relate to age-specific developmental tasks. Boys predominate, but the gender gap is not as wide as in offline contexts. For almost half of the children, (...) aggression goes hand in hand with victimization. All the clusters share high levels of emotional deprivation. A sense of lacking social support, from both adults and peers, becomes more relevant among those children with high and more problematic engagement in online aggression. Results confirm that online aggression must be considered within the complex and fluid offline–online continuum cutting across the social contexts in which children grow. (shrink)

The concept of corporal image includes how own body, taking into account their constituent parts, as well as the feelings related the those characteristics. The entrance in academica life provokes alterations in the feeding behavior, and the exposition to the new social environment they can bring as consequence an increase in dissatisfaction. Objective: To investigate the satisfaction with the body image and eating behavior of academics at a university center. Methods: For data collection, the following instruments were used. The evaluation (...) was performed with anthropometric measurements, as size and weight measurements. In order to diagnose the nutritional status, the body mass index was used. In order to evaluate the study variables; we used the Body Checking questionnaires Questionnaire. Male Body Checking Questionnaire, Body Shape Questionnaire and EAT-26. Results: According to the Body Mass Index, the female gender had a higher rate of adequacy (70.4%), in relation to the masculine (58,9%). The EAT-26 questionnaire showed that 85% of male engineering students presented risk for Feeding Disorders, in relation to the female psychology (89.8%). Conclusion: In terms of feeding behavior, the women scored higher than men, which suggests a higher susceptibility to Feeding Disorders development in men. (shrink)

Este artigo pretende discutir a concepção de aparência desenvolvida por Hannah Arendt na obra A Vida do Espírito (1977), tendo em vista a centralidade da questão como elemento inicial da reflexão sobre as atividades do espírito. Inicialmente, o texto discorre sobre parte dos atravessamentos teóricos presentes na interpretação arendtiana da aparência, concentrando-se no conteúdo de referência em Martin Heidegger. Como resultado, ocorre um afastamento realizado pela autora em relação à metafísica tradicional, e tal postura crítica será compreendida a partir do (...) diálogo com Heidegger e Kant. Assim, na sua transversalidade com a faculdade do pensar e com o ser em geral, entende-se que a crítica à metafísica é consequência direta da concepção de aparência proposta pela autora. Por fim, uma breve elucidação metodológica do conteúdo de A Vida do Espírito será apresentada, com o intuito de justificar seu caráter interpretativo baseado no método fenomenológico-hermenêutico aos moldes heideggerianos, em detrimento de uma descrição fenomenológica de inspiração husserliana. Air pollution is a current concern of people and government entities. Therefore, in urban scenarios, its monitoring and subsequent analysis is a remarkable and challenging issue due mainly to the variability of polluting-related factors. For this reason, the present work shows the development of a wireless sensor network that, through machine learning techniques, can be classified into three different types of environments: high pollution levels, medium pollution and no noticeable contamination into the Ibarra City. To achieve this goal, signal smoothing (...) stages, prototype selection, feature analysis and a comparison of classification algorithms are performed. As relevant results, there is a classification performance of 95% with a significant noisy data reduction. (shrink)

Tal como a maioria dos alunos que ingressam em um curso superior em uma universidade pública, vindos de uma formação básica muito aquém do preparo para a universidade, quando ingressei no curso de Filosofia eu pouco sabia sobre como eram as aulas, desconhecia completamente os projetos e oportunidades para ensino, pesquisa e extensão, e sequer conseguia projetar meu futuro além da essencial formação como licenciado. E provavelmente não teria a oportunidade de expandir meus objetivos e ter uma formação adequada não (...) fossem os excelentes professores e professoras com quem fui aprender sobre filosofia, sobre os trabalhos e projetos acadêmicos, e mesmo sobre a vida. This explorative study contributes to the theoretical debate on political incivility beyond the domination of Western-centric approaches while connecting the bodies of literature in political philosophy and media research. It offers empirical evidence of Bolsonaro’s delegitimizing criticisms and uncivil expressions toward the press, some specific news outlets, and individual journalists during the first two years of his presidential mandate in Brazil. It concludes that Bolsonaro displayed the complete repertoire of the defining elements of political incivility in liberal democracies vis à (...) vis the delegitimization of the press. He also unprecedently pushed the limits of civility in political discourse by employing the entire arsenal of verbal manifestations of impoliteness. (shrink)

Este trabalho apresenta exemplos de emissoras de rádio nas Américas que desempenharam um papel fundamental no processo de resistência ao poder estabelecido em seus territórios, com destaque para relatos de experiências nas quais os elementos não-verbais se mostraram expressivos para os roteiros de programas radiofônicos. Um dos objetivos é traçar um painel histórico das rádios que se opuseram ao poder constituído no século XX.

Rob Withagen has rendered the distinction between affordances and invitations more radical in two aspects: (i) affordances do not explain behavior anymore, invitations do; (ii) invitations do not boil down to affectively charged affordances, they also encompass affectively charged misperceptions. I argue that Withagen went too far. If we understand affordances as a relation between the abilities of an individual organism and its environment, then we already have sufficient resources to incorporate affectivity in the ecological approach. Affective states constitute perceptual (...) abilities and modulate their exercise, in that every perception of affordance is affectively charged. Affective states are crucial for guiding our attention to the possibilities of action relevant to the activities in which we are engaged and for providing a sense of the quality of our relationship with the environment. Procrastination remains an omnipresent phenomenon impeding especially students’ academic performance and well-being. Preliminary findings suggest that procrastination emerges due to dysfunctional emotion regulation efforts to regulate aversive emotions. This study’s objective was to clarify whether the enhancement of general adaptive emotion regulation skills reduces subsequent procrastination. For the purpose of this study, data from a two-armed randomized controlled trial with university students, comprising an active intervention and a passive wait-list control group, was collected. Participants of the intervention group were provided (...) with an online emotion regulation training over a period of 9 weeks. The results showed that the enhancement of general emotion regulation skills significantly reduced subsequent procrastination behavior within the IG as compared to the untreated WLC. Moreover, subsequent mediation analyses revealed that the reduction of procrastination was significantly mediated by the increase in general ER skills. The present results suggest that trainings which enhance general ER skills are an appropriate measure to reduce procrastination behavior among university students. The practical value of ER training interventions, particularly for student populations, is discussed. (shrink)

O presente artigo almeja refletir sobre a problemática enfrentada por Husserl em seu projeto de construção de uma ciência rigorosa. Em Philosophie als strenge Wissenschaft, obra na qual o pensador ilustra com mais detalhes a sua pretensão, há dois obstáculos a serem superados, segundo Husserl, expressos na forma do historicismo e do naturalismo. Ambos os conceitos por relativizar a verdade e reduzi-la a uma compreensão material, estão destinados ao ceticismo. Disso resulta que uma fenomenologia pura, que reúne as condições de (...) tornar a filosofia uma ciência rigorosa, não pode ficar presa aos fatos empíricos. Para tal, Husserl promove uma distinção entre fenômenos físicos e psíquicos, entre a realidade material e a verdade ideal. Portanto, a fenomenologia sendo uma ciência das essências, cujo objeto de estudo é a verdade ideal, busca superar a mera materialidade e afirmar-se como uma doutrina pura, cujo objeto central é o fenômeno puro, despido de toda a materialidade, revelado em sua condição ideal, universal. The philosophy of perception has been mostly focused on vision, to the detriment of other modalities like audition or olfaction. In this paper I focus on olfaction and olfactory experience, and raise the following questions: is olfaction a perceptual-representational modality? If so, what does it represent? My goal in the paper is, firstly, to provide an affirmative answer to the first question, and secondly, to argue that olfaction represents odors in the form of olfactory objects, to which olfactory qualities are (...) attributed. In order to do this I develop an empirically adequate notion of olfactory object that is sensitive to the peculiarities of olfaction, and defend it against various objections. (shrink)

Even today there persist perceptions of the thought of António Sérgio (1883 – 1969) that confine this prominent philosopher, journalist, sociologist and essayist within rather narrow bounds of strictly classicist framing − in other words, immune to the influences of ‘sensibility’. The present study, however, endeavours to suggest that this is no more than a limited glimpse, a glimpse that in fact ignores the intricacy of a Sérgian manner of perceiving. What one confronts here is a cultural myth that calls (...) for being deconstructed in order to demonstrate the substance of Sérgio’s humanist discourse. The study leverages, to this effect, both the philosophy of Jean- Jacques Rousseau (1712 – 1778) and the novel "A Cidade e as Serras" by Eça de Queiroz (1845 –1900). (shrink)

This article examines the implications of traditional philosophical language inherited from Portuguese colonization in Brazil, still prevalent in academia and secondary education. Through a critical reading of Brazil's early colonial history, we analyze the aspects of this perspective shaping philosophical tradition. Friedrich Nietzsche's antidogmatic thought and Martin Heidegger's concept of calculative thinking inform our critique. Inspired by Paulo Freire's "Pedagogy of the Oppressed," our study explores students' everyday language, aiming to develop an alternative philosophical language rooted in social reality.

This article is part of the research project ‘Representação midiática da violação de direitos e da violência contra pessoas em situação de rua no jornalismo on-line’, associated with Red Latinoamericana de Análisis Crítico del Discurso de la Extrema Pobreza, and focuses upon the ways in which electronic news media represent homeless people in Brazil. The focus is a pair of texts, related through internal hyperlinks, about the controversy concerning the installation of a social center in a middle-class neighborhood in central (...) Sao Paulo. The texts are analyzed on the theoretical basis of critical discourse analysis and considering the following analytical categories: metaphor, representation of social actors and intertextuality. Analyses show a scenario of ‘invasion by unwelcome people’, who are not perceived as rights holders, but as a threat to the rights of others. (shrink)

The programme PIBID-EA intends to closer licensees of undergraduate teaching courses with the reality of public schools. By promoting the teacher-researcher training on the basis of implementing collaborative actions between universities and partner schools it aims at encouraging critical questioning of environmental issues, providing appropriate conditions for PIBID-EA-grant fellows initiate school teaching. University lecturers, elementary school supervisors and the school community collaborate in partnership to improve knowledge and develop values and skills for students acting in favour of sustainable society, where (...) The partnership acts collectively in the school field, establishing interfaces with social and environmental issues as follows: didactic monitoring, study of the environment and action research. Durante vários anos, Jean Héring (1890-1966) foi professor de teologia na Université de Strasbourg. Um fato pessoal que o marcou definitivamente, foi o privilégio de ter sido discípulo de Husserl, em Göttingen. Nesta oportunidade, também teve contato com outros representantes da fenomenologia, como Edith Stein, Adolf Reinach e Alexandre Koyré. No breve texto a seguir, datado de 1939, um ano antes da morte de Husserl, Héring relembra a sua chegada em Göttingen, no ano de 1909 e o modo como Husserl (...) impressionava os seus discípulos, pelo seu brilhantismo. Fato este que acompanhou Héring durante todo o restante de sua vida, impactando decisivamente em sua obra. (shrink)

This article aims to examine Johann Gottlieb Fichte's lectures on the destination of the erudite, in particular his contributions to thinking about ethics. In this writing, the philosopher makes a series of reflections on the role of each individual in society, and states that each one has a vocation to be freely chosen, and therefore exercised. Since human beings are essentially dignified, they are allowed to use only things and not their fellow human beings: as a result, they are their (...) own ends. The erudite, in particular, has the vocation to contribute directly to the ultimate goal of the human being, and this goal includes the moral improvement of each individual who makes up society. The emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic initiated major disruptions to higher education systems. Physical spaces that previously supported interpersonal interaction and community were abruptly inactivated, and faculty largely took on the responsibility of accommodating classroom structures in rapidly changing situations. This study employed interviews to examine how undergraduate Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) instructors adapted instruction to accommodate the mandated transition to virtual learning and how these accommodations supported or hindered community and belonging during the onset of the pandemic. Interviews with 25 STEM faculty at an undergraduate Hispanic Serving Institution revealed a wide range of accommodations they made to their courses and how they managed communication with students. Faculty strived to support student belonging with responses ranging from caring to crisis management, though some faculty expressed feelings of powerlessness when unable to accommodate certain challenges. The case of a responsive and flexible instructor is presented to highlight a productive response to a crisis. These retrospective findings point to strategies to support faculty teaching in virtual learning environments in the future; increasing opportunities for student–student and student–faculty interaction, supporting faculty in learning technologies that support these interactions and addressing faculty’s feelings of powerlessness. O presente artigo almeja demonstrar que em Einleitung in die Logik und Erkenntnistheorie, de 1906/07, por meio de uma crítica ao ceticismo, Husserl promove uma mudança que será significativa no desenvolvimento posterior de sua filosofia: a introdução da εποχή. Ao contrário do ceticismo grego, tal conceito em Husserl, ao suspender o juízo, busca um dado indubitável: o ego. Isso proporciona com que Husserl supere o ceticismo, tanto em sua face dogmática (negação de possibilidade de todo o conhecimento), quanto crítica (suspensão (...) do juízo perante o alcance do conhecimento). Com isso, pode-se perceber que ao retomar um conceito cético da filosofia antiga, e opor-se ao relativismo, Husserl inaugura o seu primeiro esboço de uma filosofia pura, que adiante será concretizada, em sua última fase, como idealismo fenomenológico-transcendental. O presente artigo tem como objetivo refletir acerca do modo como na crítica do conhecimento, Husserl passa da suspensão do juízo à afixação de um dado apodítico, revelado através do cogito. Para tal, através da análise de alguns elementos presentes em Die Idee der Phänomenologie, de 1907, almeja-se demonstrar que o dado apodítico encontrado por Husserl está envolvido na pergunta sobre a legitimidade do conhecimento. Deste modo, a fenomenologia husserliana se apresenta como a doutrina universal da essência, uma proposta que (...) tem em vista apresentar os fundamentos seguros à teoria do conhecimento. -/- . O presente artigo almeja refletir sobre os pressupostos educacionais presentes na obra Sobre a Pedagogia, de Kant e A destinação do erudito, de Fichte. Quanto a Kant, buscar-se-á demonstrar a importância que o pensador confere a uma sólida formação na infância, que será refletida no adulto do futuro. No que se refere a Fichte, o pensador, partindo de pressupostos kantianos, reafirma a importância da construção de uma sociedade moral, na qual cada indivíduo tem uma vocação a ser exercida livremente e (...) que beneficiará a todos os demais. Em ambos os pensadores, pode-se perceber uma ênfase no estabelecimento da educação moral, com o objetivo de promover uma boa convivência em sociedade. A finalidade dessa educação é fazer com que os instintos se submetam à lei moral, que, em última instância, serve para permitir que o indivíduo conviva em harmonia com seus semelhantes. (shrink)

Rob Withagen radicalizou a distinção entre affordances e solicitações em dois aspectos: (i) affordances deixam de cumprir um papel explicativo do comportamento do organismo, apenas solicitações o fazem; (ii) solicitações não são apenas affordances relevantes afetivamente carregadas, elas abrangem também percepções errôneas afetivamente carregadas. Argumento que Withagen foi longe demais. Se entendemos as affordances como uma relação entre as habilidades de um organismo individual e o seu ambiente, então já temos recursos suficientes para incorporar a afetividade. Afetos tanto constituem habilidades (...) perceptuais quanto modulam o seu exercício, de modo que não há percepção de affordance completamente livre de afetividade. Estados afetivos são cruciais para dirigir a nossa atenção para as possibilidades de ações que são relevantes para a ativida¬de em que estamos engajados e para nos dar um senso da qualidade da nossa relação com o ambiente. Research regarding ethics programs represents an important segment of business ethics literature. In the last thirty years, scientific discourse on ethics programs has flourished. Numerous studies examined their functions, composition, application in organizational practice, and impact on employee ethical behavior and many other organizational variables. However, so far there has been no study that would comprehensively map this particular field. Given that, this paper aims to examine discourse on ethics programs in its complexity within business and management literature. Based on (...) a sophistically composed search protocol in the Scopus database, and after multiple rounds of checks, we extracted a final sample of 287 documents that matched the selection criteria. The sample was thoroughly analyzed by means of advanced bibliometric analytics tools. The results show the quantitative impact of ethics program literature via publication and citation metrics, a network of co-occurring themes and clusters of scientific inquiry, and the evolution of respective discourse over time. This detailed analysis results in a set of conclusions provided in the last part of the paper summarizing the quantitative performance and thematic scope of literature on ethics programs. (shrink)

RESUMO As elites simbólicas perpetuam as formas mais importantes de racismo, o que aponta a importância de nos dedicarmos à análise de como discursos racistas são construídos, com foco específico no discurso da elite branca e, neste trabalho, da branquitude soteropolitana conforme plasmada por estudantes da Universidade Federal da Bahia. Para tanto, reunimos dados, gerados na UFBA, oriundos de questionários abertos e grupo focal com estudantes de graduação. Nesta análise discursiva crítica, utilizamos recorte de uma pesquisa mais ampla, na qual (...) se investigou a percepção da branquitude por discentes autodeclarados/as brancos/as da UFBA. Nossa análise sugere que a percepção do privilégio branco, mesmo quando afirmada, é permeada de ideias que podem fundamentar práticas e/ou discursos racistas, e que a representação de mulheres negras ainda é calcada em estereótipos socialmente construídos numa sociedade fortemente racista como a nossa. ABSTRACT Symbolic elites perpetuate the most critical forms of racism, which points to the importance of the analysis of how racist discourses are constructed, with a specific focus on the white elite. In this paper, the focus is Bahia's capital whiteness as shaped by students at the Federal University of Bahia. For this, we gathered data, generated at UFBA, from open questionnaires and a focus group with undergraduate students. For this critical discursive analysis, we used a section of a broader research, in which the perception of whiteness by self-declared white students from UFBA was investigated. Our analysis suggests that the understanding of white privilege is permeated with ideas that can support racist practices and discourses, and that the representation of black women is still based on socially constructed stereotypes in an actively racist society such as ours. Neste artigo, embora estejamos focadas na etnicidade como forma de organização social de mulheres negras, lideranças de terreiro, que estamos chamando de Matriarcas, nosso propósito é pensar sobre como a tradição é mantida pelos simbolismos étnicos. Entendemos simbolismos étnicos, como saberes e fazeres materiais e imateriais, ensinados/aprendidos através de narrativas míticas geradoras de símbolos tradicionais e que para nós, como estudiosas dos legados africanos, nos interessa pensar sobre os conhecimentos das tradições afro-brasileiras, em especial, das mulheres que exercem o Matriarcado (...) em muitos terreiros. Estamos falando em Matriarcado, correndo todos os possíveis riscos que esse debate traz. Estamos tomando Matriarcado para falar de mulheres, que nos aponta narrativas negras referenciadas em seus saberes, mitos e símbolos transmitidos por meio de cantigas, danças, rezas. Portanto, as Matriarcas, no movimento feito da “porteira para dentro”, mantêm as tradições refletidas nos saberes dos simbolismos étnicos ancestrais a respeito do feminino. Da “porteira para fora”, como liderança religiosa, social e cultural, lutam contra as discriminações sexistas e raciais. Neste sentido, falar sobre o conhecimento da etnicidade que a Matriarca possui, a coloca no lugar de quem tem o conhecimento mais profundo da magia e do encantamento mobilizados pelo grupo étnico ao qual pertence. A ideia de que a ciência — ou ao menos as atividades científicas que são consideradas as mais essenciais para a ciência — deve ser livre de valores é bastante difundida. Neste capítulo, vou discutir essa tese, normalmente entendida como um ideal de ciência. Na primeira seção, introduzo alguns conceitos e distinções que são importantes para entender essa tese, como a diferença entre valores cognitivos e não-cognitivos. Na segunda seção, discuto o papel dos valores na seleção de problemas e na (...) metodologia científica. Na terceira seção, apresento dois argumentos canônicos contra o ideal da ciência como livre de valores: o argumento da lacuna explicativa, de Helen Longino (1990), e o argumento do risco indutivo, de Heather Douglas (2009). Na quarta seção, discuto algumas respostas a esses argumentos. Por fim, na última seção, a partir da abordagem ecológica, exploro e sustendo a ideia de que a reconcepção da ciência como uma atividade social situada e adaptativa supera a dicotomia entre fato e valor que subjaz a discussão. Essa nova concepção de ciência nos permite acomodar melhor os resultados dos argumentos apresentados na terceira seção. (shrink)

We administered suggestions to see a gray-scale pattern as colored and a colored pattern in shades of gray to 30 high suggestible and eight low suggestible students. The suggestions were administered twice, once following the induction of hypnosis and once without an induction. Besides rating the degree of color they saw in the stimuli differently, participants also rated their states of consciousness as normal, relaxed, hypnotized, or deeply hypnotized. Reports of being hypnotized were limited to highly suggestible participants and only (...) after the hypnotic induction had been administered. Reports of altered color perception were also limited to high suggestibles, but were roughly comparable regardless of whether hypnosis had been induced. These data indicate that suggestible individuals do not slip into a hypnotic state when given imaginative suggestions without the induction of hypnosis, but nevertheless report experiencing difficult suggestions for profound perceptual alterations that are pheonomenologically similar to what they report in hypnosis. Este artigo examina possíveis aproximações entre a filosofia de Henri Bergson e a 'Patafisica de Alfred Jarry. O objetivo principal é analisar a criatividade da imaginação artística enquanto aspiração ao aberto no pensamento humano. A 'Patafísica, uma ciência de soluções imaginárias dedicada ao estudo das leis que regem as exceções, é abordada através de elementos da filosofia bergsoniana, como a intuição, a imagem mediadora, a função fabuladora, a crítica à representação, a influência do virtual, a indeterminação, o empirismo metafísico e (...) o aspecto criativo do impulso vital. Ao propor com a ́Patafísica, em tom de sátira, uma crítica da epistemologia e da ontologia, a criatividade artística de Jarry logrou alcançar relevância filosófica. (shrink)

Este artigo oferece uma análise abrangente da geohistória brasileira, explorando suas raízes, desde a colonização portuguesa até o cenário contemporâneo. Destaca-se a influência da colonização na construção da identidade nacional, examinando as implicações geohistóricas desse período. A expansão territorial é examinada criticamente, considerando suas ramificações geohistóricas. O texto também investiga as complexidades resultantes da industrialização e urbanização, destacando os reflexos nas desigualdades regionais. Aborda-se o projeto decolonial no Brasil, enfatizando abordagens geohistóricas para promover a justiça social. Ao contextualizar o Brasil (...) contemporâneo, o artigo explora desafios e perspectivas, ressaltando a complexidade da formação socioespacial brasileira. Tradução de um artigo do discípulo de Husserl, Paul Landsberg, publicado em 1939, onde o autor tece algumas considerações sobre a ideia que Husserl tinha da filosofia.

The aim of this paper is to discuss Husserl's defence of transcendental phenomenology in the face of the attitude of materialization and the naturalization of consciousness, which dominates the attitude that underlies the formation of the natural sciences. Inheriting some elements of classical German philosophy, Husserl understands that it is only through the a priori that philosophy can be realized as a rigorous science. Our analysis will initially be developed through a critical discussion of the problem that Husserl identifies in (...) the naturalistic sciences based on the natural attitude, which is the materialization of consciousness. Next, we will show how, in relation to the project of building a philosophy as a rigorous science, naturalism, which is naive in its foundation, is the main obstacle to be overcome because of the consequences that can arise from it, implying currents such as psychologism, materialism and positivism. Finally, we will point out the way in which Husserl defends transcendental phenomenology against the naivety of natural science, which remains trapped in empirical facts and makes them the ultimate criterion for attesting to truth. The COVID-19 outbreak spurred unplanned closures and transitions to online classes. Physical environments that once fostered social interaction and community were rendered inactive. We conducted interviews and administered surveys to examine undergraduate STEM students’ feelings of belonging and engagement while in physical isolation, and identified online teaching modes associated with these feelings. Surveys from a racially diverse group of 43 undergraduate students at a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) revealed that interactive synchronous instruction was positively associated with feelings of interest and (...) belonging, particularly for students of color, while noninteractive instruction reduced social belonging, but was related to more cognitive engagement. Small group and one-on-one interviews with 23 of these students suggest that students derived feelings of connectedness from their instructors, peers, and prior experiences and relied on their sense of competency to motivate themselves in the course and feel a sense of belonging. Two embedded cases of students in physics classrooms are compared to highlight the range of student feelings of connectedness and competency during the lockdown. Findings reaffirm that social interaction tends to support belonging and engagement, particularly for under-represented (Black or African American and Hispanic) racial groups in STEM. STEM instructors who aim to support feelings of belonging and engagement in virtual learning environments should consider increasing opportunities for student–student and student–teacher interactions, as well as taking a flexible approach that validates and integrates student voice into instruction. Future research is needed to further explore the themes of relatedness and competency that emerged as aspects of course belonging. (shrink)

This article explores the concept of "practice" in Alasdair MacIntyre's moral theory, emphasizing its relevance for reconstructing virtue ethics in a contemporary context of moral fragmentation. Through a critical analysis of his work, After Virtue, the historical, philosophical, and narrative foundations of his ethical framework are examined. MacIntyre characterizes modernity as a period of moral disorder, marked by ethical pluralism lacking a shared basis for consensus. He advocates for the revival of teleology and Aristotelian virtues to address these dilemmas, adapting (...) them to the current cultural and social context. The concept of practice is central to this approach, defined as a collaborative activity guided by internal norms and values aiming for intrinsic excellence. Furthermore, the author employs narrative as a structure to integrate morality, history, and tradition. This research argues that reintegrating virtues and practices into morality offers a cohesive and meaningful solution to contemporary ethical challenges. This study deepens the understanding of the implications of virtue ethics in a pluralistic world, highlighting its applicability in strengthening the common good and justice. (shrink)
